For convenience an extract from
of
the Daily Press
in substance
giving the
Encl. C 23rd May 1894.
to
only
of my replies to these requests. I can
add that I have
no
intention
of relaxing the regulations which have been put in force and which I consider
in
"absolutely necessary to safeguard as far as possible the
health
of
the entire population.
There have been several cases
of mobbing and stone throwing which have been promptly
dealt
with. The total number
of deaths
up to the present
date is close upon 300, and the mortality amongst those
attacked has been at least
95 per cent, but latterly it seems to have been 80 per
cent.
I enclose some remarks
on the medical aspect of the
plague by Surgeon Penny, R.N.
I have the honour to be,
My Lord Marquess,
Your Lordship's Most Obedient,
Humble Servant,
William Robinson
